My Dog Is Constantly Scratching and Biting Himself, What is Happening with It

“My dog is constantly scratching and biting himself” is a common thought of every dog owners. Most pet parents must have seen their pets are scratching, licking, or biting themselves. But, somehow, if you notice your dogs are behaving like this continuously, you must be aware that there is something wrong with them.

In fact, the reasons for this behavior are various, and it is commonly because of the psychological or medical problems. Here are some reasons of my dog is constantly scratching and biting himself case.

 

Skin Infections

Of course, it is common for dogs to bite and scratch, but a strong scratching and biting attack can be a sign of an allergic reaction.

Not all of extreme scratching and biting behavior is caused by medical problems. Some cases relate to the psychological problems, such as OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder), boredom, or anxiety. In this case, it can be started with some medical problems, but then their behavior (scratching, licking, and biting excessively) don’t change even after their scars are completely healed.

After knowing the reasons behind the extreme behavior, you can decide to do the treatment, whether to take them to a vet or do some dog itching remedies at home, such as:

  • Try to minimize the stress and give your dogs some activities to reduce their stress. Play with them daily as it helps to reduce their boredom.
  • Make sure to bathe your dog routinely. It helps to keep them away from any itching triggers.
